Finally started on some of the pieces.
Motivated now to have finished before choco.

Front diff cover area is cut out of an 8" I.D. dom tube section.
housing plate is cut from 1/2" steel plate.

need to build the jig, to start laying out the 1/4" wall dom tube shafts.

Going to have short side 3" longer and all shock mounts, braces, spring perches from 1/4" plate and braced together.

here's the start.

sweet! looks like thats gonna be heavy, thats really not a a bad thing, unsprung weight low to the ground will help keep the rubber down.

to much unsprung weight will increase the possibility of a roll over. ask the dork and a half guys.

I think thisl axle housing will be about 30# pound heavier then a regular one with all the gussets.

i dont see how unless the weight is above the cog at a given point.

if your on a incline sideways with too much sprung weight, its going to pull you over and your going to roll... but with more weight unsprung (axles/tires) your going to be planted. that makes sence to me :geek:

High unsprung weight makes suspension movement more difficult to control.

Bolt location jig, drilled ( just touched) with 8.5mm, fits tight in the housing holes, used to just start and center the holes for the 6.7mm holes needed for tapping.

got this tap centering holder from wholesale tools, worked great.
Image

Image

need to build the jig to center and align everything next.
